St. John Beaches

Trunk Bay

The most iconic beach on the island
A world-famous crescent of white sand and crystal-clear water with a marked underwater snorkeling trail perfect for all levels. It’s often ranked among the best beaches in the Caribbean and has great amenities (snorkel/gear rentals, lifeguards, restrooms, snack bar).

Cinnamon Bay

One of St. John’s longest beaches, great for swimming, kayaking and snorkeling, with picnic areas and nearby trails. It’s a perfect mix of space, water activities and natural beauty.

Maho Beach

Turtles & calm water. Known for calm, shallow waters and frequent sea turtle sightings, Maho is excellent for families, floating, and easy snorkeling right off the beach.

Honeymoon Beach

Romantic & slightly secluded. A quieter, picturesque spot reachable by short hike or boat. Its calm water and scenic setting make it ideal for relaxing swims and light snorkeling.

St thomas beaches

Magens Bay

Probably the most famous beach on St. Thomas, with a long curve of powder-white sand and calm, protected turquoise water — perfect for families, swimming, paddleboarding, or just relaxing in the sun. There are lifeguards, restrooms, chair rentals and a beachside café. It can get busy, especially when cruise ships are in port, and there’s a small entry fee. will be busy if cruise ships are in port.

Coki Beach & Margaritaville

A popular beach for shore snorkeling, with clear water and lots of tropical fish close to the rocks. It’s vibrant and social with vendors, chair rentals, and nearby Coral World Ocean Park. will likely be crowded while cruise ships are at port. This is a great place to walk to if you want to use your Club Wyndham bracelets to park for free and enjoy the pool and restaurant at Margaritaville. Good place to visit for the day!

Secret Harbor & Sapphire Beach

Tucked into a quiet cove on the east end, this peaceful beach offers gentle water perfect for snorkeling and swimming, plus a beachside restaurant/bar for lunch or sunset drinks.

Lindquist Beach

A beautiful, slightly quieter option with soft sand, brilliant blue water, and scenic views across Pillsbury Sound. It feels more natural and less developed than Magens Bay but still has basic facilities and shaded picnic spots.

If you're comfortable driving on the left side of the road, have more than 2 people in your party and plan to visit a few beaches and restaurants, renting a car is is the most economical option.  You can rent a car fairly easily and I don't find any one provider is better than the others.

If you'd like a driver, Aaron Angol has a dependable upscale cab service, as do the drivers for Limetree.  You can call Aaron to schedule a pick up from the airport and also consider picking up groceries on the way to the resort.  He can stop at Moe's in Haven Sight on the way.  It's usually a $60-$80 fair with the stop. It's $12 - $20 per person to go anywhere on the island.  Negotiating is common to don't be hesitate to arrange a deal !

Most of what I know about the island is from regulars who post about their visit.  Become a subscriber to a few of my go-to St. Thomas/St. John Facebook pages. St John USVI Travel and Leisure & Limetree Beach Resort.  Here you will find unlimited information about how and what to pack, finding that empty beach, day hiking trips, when to visit the island, etc.  Be warned, you won't be able to stop doom scrolling at the incredible aqua blue water vistas from every angle of these glorious islands.
